Number one marketing tip that is both effective and profitable?
I’ve just been asked by a reporter “what is your #1 marketing tip that is both effective and profitable?“
I thought I’d share my response here as it’s a question that I get asked often when I say that I work with small business owners on their marketing communications.
My number one marketing tip is to be clear on your marketing message.
There is so much noise out there, competition is fierce, no matter what field you are in so it’s important to have a strong message, to be clear on how you help your clients or how you solve their problems.
This is my message:
I help business owners to communicate better using the written word to attract better clients, get more sales and create long-lasting relationships.
Straight away, the target market can identify themselves (business owners), what I do for them (help them to communicate better using the written word) and what the benefit of using me is (attracting better clients, getting more sales and creating long lasting relationships).
So while I used my own message as an example, just look at how big companies are clear on their message:
- Avis – We try harder
- AIG – We know money
- British Airways – The World’s Favourite Airline
- Cisco – Empowering the Internet Generation
- FedEx – When it absolutely, positively has to be there overnight.”
- Disneyland – The happiest place on earth.
I see many business owners struggle with their message and as such, they don’t engender confidence in the other person. By being clear, the right customer can relate to you and it makes selling a whole lot easier. So it leads to extra sales with the right people.
