Denise Fay Chosen to be Speaker at TEDxDrogheda

Denise Fay speaks about 'Ask and you will Achieve' at TEDx Drogheda 2016In September, I was delighted to share that I was one of eight chosen speakers for the Inaugral TEDxDrogheda event. Over 80 people applied so it was an honour to be selected.
The TEDx Drogheda took place in the intimate Droichead Arts Centre on the 17th September. All of us speakers fully embraced the TEDx mission of coming up with a big idea worth spreading. We all had our own personal spin on the theme of the event which was The Future of Wealth. It was the first time the presitgious TED brand was seen in the North East.
My topic was ‘Ask and you will Achieve’. I’m not one to ask for help but I read a quote earlier in the year and it stunned me ‘Asking for help is a sign of strength not weakness‘. So I thought, right girl, it’s time to strengthen some weaknesses. And I did an experiment for 31 days – asking people for help. (You know me and my love of 31 days!).
Here is the video of my talk. I’ve been amazed at the amount of people who have talked to me and shared their agony of asking and how I’ve inspired them to now ask. That’s humbling, especially as that was my reason for sharing my experiment.
Go watch it. I’m looking for others to carry on the experiment and also to share with me their experience of asking.

TEDxDrogheda

It was a fantastic experience. I met 7 fabulously inspiring people. We all have this common bond of support and every talk was so unique, so inspirational, so thought-provoking. I am honoured to have shared a stage with these wonderful men and women:

  • Emmet Humphreys – “Venetian Negotiation: A template for a modern sustainable city”
  • Bibi Baskin – “Personal Wealth? It can’t be all about money”
  • Elle Loughran – “The Curious Path to Opportunity”
  • Barry James – “How small business has the data edge over Big Business”
  • Niamh Gaffney – “Challenging Change; Mental Health is Our Wealth”
  • Tom Cooney – “Difability Entrepreneurs as Creators of Future Wealth”
  • Sharon Oughton – “Seeing the Baby – The Wealth in Early Relationships”

All talks are available here – and I’d suggest you watch them all. Seriously, everyone is fabulous.

The event was deemed a major success so the organising committee is very hopeful of getting the licence renewed and turning it into an annual event. I’ll be sure to share news about it, but I would definitely encourage you to apply.
I’ll leave you with a comment from Orlaith Carmody, MC on the day and one of the organising committee,  “The speakers were just amazing and produced such a diverse and interesting take on the theme. They put in great work beforehand, and really delivered top class talks on the day.” They organised a fantastic event so hats off to all of them – Orlaith, Graham O’Rourke, Alan Costello, Anna Kurtisa and Orla Moloney.
