31 Days to Write Better Copy – The Process

31 days to write better text by Denise Fay : Achieve MarketingThe ‘31 days to write better copy‘ starts 1st October. It’s a challenge to business owners, coaches, entrepreneurs or executives to improve their writing technique.
Why ’31 days to write better copy’
I decided to launch the programme on 1st October, as it’s is the first month in the last quarter of 2010.
If you are like me, then you’re wondering where the other 3/4 of the year went! So I decided that to make the most of the remainder of the year, let’s all push ourselves to write better copy to engage and relate with our target audience.
Too many business owners procrastinate when it comes to writing – whether it’s the follow up sales email, the blog post, the update of the website. So instead of waiting…I thought why not help others to start writing.
What is ’31 days to write better copy’
It’s a series of 31 articles over 31 days which will contain a little theory and practical exercises. It will provides business owners with free advice and techniques for successful copy-writing.
Topics include:

  • Change your writing mindset
  • Find out who exactly your audience is
  • What headlines are killers – for the right and wrong reasons
  • Create a framework to write quickly
  • Write equals editing
  • Shorten long paragraphs into snappy little sentences
  • Email etiquette – the do’s and don’ts

and much, much more. Read more about the 31 days to write better copy topics
How ’31 days to write better copy’ works
Each day for the month of October, I’ll post an article on www.31daystowritebettercopy.com. You can read the theory and then do the homework. Homework is scary for many people as it brings back terrible memories of school days. To remove the fear, I won’t be checking homework but to make the most of the 31 days, it’s up to you to do the exercises.
How many of us go to courses, listen to webinars, think the information is fantastic but don’t put it into practice. I don’t want this series to be one of those courses. I want you to WRITE rather than read too much theory.
Alternatively, if you want to get the emails direct to your inbox. , you can sign up here. (You can unsubscribe at any time)

So why not give 2010 that final push for sales – and take on the ‘31 days to write better copy‘ challenge? You’ve everything to gain and nothing to lose.
I’m looking forward to it myself – I’m often the victim of ‘The Cobblers Children’ mentality so it will be good for me to get focused for a month.

  1. Hi Denise,
What a great idea. I know of so many of my colleagues that don’t write confidently. Therefore they throw any word togethers. It’s particularly relevant in emails. The difference in emails that I get is amazing…even from my own company.
I’ll be looking forward to the next month. I’ve bookmarked the page.
    All the best
    Louise

  2. In January, I had lots of good ideas to market my business. I was going to set aside time to market and do business development. It doesn’t seem that long ago.
Now we’re facing into Christmas – it’s really only October and November that matter in one way. Two months to get my marketing act together. I’m in.

    1. Thanks for that Barry. That really means a lot. Must send over my press release to see if you think it’s great and well written.
      Thanks again, Barry.
